The Creature in my closet

My heart was pounding in my ears as I crept slowly closer to the door. I knew he was in there, just waiting for me to come and open the door. I decided it was time to get this over with, no more sleepless nights. I was going to face the monster in my closet and ask him, Why me, why my closet?

I opened the door and was shocked to be standing face to face with a smiling blue monster. He had a bell shaped head with one large bloodshot eye in the center of his head. Two large golden bull horns protruded from his head in the place of ears. His mouth was oblong with two sharp fangs aimed downwards past his bottom lip. He had the brightest red lips that might have seemed scary to some but not to me. I could tell this monster meant me no harm. His lone bloodshot eye searched me with intense curiosity. This monster wasn’t trying to scare me; he was just trying to get to know me.

He had a larger round body with the feet and legs of a duck. He had two small chicken like wings halfway down his round ball shaped body.
I reached out to touch his soft blue fur. I was mesmerized, he was almost completely covered with it.
Then he spoke, with the voice of a small child. He told me that he was sorry for scaring me, but that he loved to listen as my mother read me my bedtime stories. He told me he meant me no harm and that his name was Henry. He was just a child, and he is from a family of good dream monsters. When he grows up he will join his parents in spreading good dreams to all the children but for now he was just learning.

I was very glad to have met my new friend, Henry. I told him he didn’t need to hide in the closet anymore. So Henry shuffled out on his big orange feet, the only other part of his body besides the horns not covered in the soft light blue fur. Henry and I read a book together but then Henry told me he had to go before his Mom and Dad came looking for him, but Henry promised he would be back for another story tomorrow.
